N 37° 8′ 13″; W 8° 32′ 18″

Portimão is a town and a municipality in the district of Faro, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. The population in 2011 was 55,614, in an area of 182.06 km².
Historically a fishing and shipbuilding center, it has nonetheless developed into a strong tourist center oriented along its beaches and southern coast. The two most populous towns in the Algarve are Portimão and Faro.
Portimão is the most important urbanized city in the "Barlavento Algarvio" (the western Algarve), supporting a sizeable population with harbor and a small airfield (Portimão Airport) of its own with scheduled flights to some domestic destinations by Aero VIP (the larger Faro International Airport is in the nearby district capital of Faro).
The municipality is primarily serviced by the A22 motorway (the "Via do Infante"), and the E.N.125 roadway that links it directly to the communities of Alvor (4 kilometers), Mexilhoeira Grande (9 kilometers), and Praia da Rocha (3 kilometers).
