Salir is a Portuguese village, the seat of the Parish of Salir in the Municipality of Loulé, a parish with an area of 187.75 km² and 2448 inhabitants (2021 census), thus having a population density of 13 inhabitants/km², which allows it to be classified as a Low-Density Area.

History
The history of this village spans many years. It was once inhabited by the Celts, but later it was the Arabs who gave it greater importance, and during the period of the Almohad Caliphate, in the 12th century, the castle of Salir was built there, of which only ruins remain today and which is believed to have been burned down. and rebuilt twice. From that point on, Salir became an important and strategic point in the conquest of the Algarve, which was only completed, standardized and legalized in 1297.
